I am a midwest girl who moved a few years ago to experience life on the west coast. It has been one of the best decisions in life that I have ever made and definitely the most entertaining one.
Only in LA....do you have a build your own taco party and at the end of the evening all of the meat and veggies have been devoured and all of the tortillas and other carbs remain untouched.
Only in LA....do you see a dog wearing sunglasses and a fashionable vest and everyone acts as if this is normal. Also to be noted, the dog has a publicist.
Only in LA...do you go to yoga and have your yoga instructor begin class by saying, "I'd like to welcome you to your bodies".
Only in LA...can you see more men than women in skinny jeans.
Only in LA...can you walk out your door confidently knowing that no matter what you are wearing (or not wearing), no one will bat an eye.
Only in LA...does it seem like a good idea to pay $80 for a ratty looking t-shirt.
Only in LA...can you walk down a street in the middle of the day being blinded by the light reflecting off of the shiny, plastic noses, breasts, and cheeks on the faces you pass.
Only in LA...

I Want a Bite of...Intimacy with Dignity
Intimacy. Meaning. Faith. Destiny.
Intimacy:
I will require that I am treated a certain way with dignity and respect. And I will act in the same manner towards you. It is for the benefit of not only both of us, but for all of those that we encounter. For if we allow ourselves to be treated poorly, or if we treat others that way, we decrease our capabilities in life. Our capabilities are only increased through the intimacy found in relationships that encourage, support, and challenge.

I want a bite of biographies
I love to read biographies. It is my absolute favorite genre as I find that the lives that people really live are often far more fascinating than any fictional story out there. So many people live lives that challenge, inspire, and motivate me to do more, be more, and appreciate more. One of those such people is Nelson Mandela. I recently read a quote of his and I feel the need to share it. He said,
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our greatest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be fabulous, brilliant, talented, gorgeous? Actually, who are you not to be, you are a child of God and your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, like children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in every one of us. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give people permission to do the same. As we are liberated by our fears, our presence automatically liberates others."
Thank you Mr. Mandela for the life that you chose to live. Thank you for choosing inspiration instead of defeat. May we all do the same. You have inspired me.
I wrote a memoir about 3 years ago and I'm currently in the process of trying to publish it.

Hiring a Superwoman Taxi Driver in China and Letting Her Lead The Way

This past December I traveled to China for ten days with my business partner and a few other companions. The trip was filled with enriching experiences and it would be nearly impossible to identify a favorite place or event during the trip. However, one amazing person that we encountered on our trip was the taxi driver that we hired in Lijiang. In a matter of hours she had earned the title of Master Zhao for the three of us who had hired her. She drove us around for two days and stopped at the important sites along the way and she did it all for an inexpensive price. When we were hungry, we let her choose her favorite restaurants to take us to and they did not disappoint. We also let her choose the sites that we should see and they did not disappoint. Basically, she did not disappoint. Were it not for her, we would have never ended up under a flimsy tin roof eating delicious noodle soup and buns with the locals for about a dollar a person. Were it not for her, I would have never experienced eating a meal in which I was told I was too skinny because I didn't eat enough meat all while being stared at with a disappointed glare. Were it not for her, we would have never experienced a local favorite restaurant in Ringha that serves up delicious yak soup and a shoe shine. Were it not for her, we would have never experienced getting out of a massive traffic jam caused by an overturned truck because she called her brother and had him drive to the other side of the accident and switch cars with us. Were it not for her, we would have missed our flight because she grabbed our bags and led us through the accident to the other side. Were it not for her. I would not have stood in such awe of how strong some women around the world can be.
I love Master Zhao and her amazing taxi driving skills. I want to be like her.
